A Humanistic and Integrative approach to the therapeutic process underpins my approach. I draw on a number of different therapeutic schools and approaches according to the issues and needs of each client. At the heart of my work is the importance I place on the relationship of mutual respect and trust between the client and therapist. I am committed to creating a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment for each client. The therapeutic approach is facilitated through dialogue rather than advice and information. I work collaboratively with the client to gain insight into the emotional and psychological aspects that may be underlying their presenting issues.
In my couple work I am interested in how each individual’s early experience, assumption and expectation of relationships impacts how they experience and react in their own relationship. Often couples can become stuck in ways of interacting with each other that are maladaptive. Couple therapy can help to identify and replace this with more positive interactions, teaching listening and communication skills that allow greater empathy, understanding and intimacy between the couple.
Confidentiality is central and crucial to my role as a psychotherapist. I work to a professional code of ethics which requires complete client confidentiality. Confidentiality will be fully explained to you at the first session.
